New West 57th Street Landmark Movie Theater Location Is Now Open

BY JEN CHUNG  ON SEP 16, 2017 There may not be an Alamo Drafthouse on the Upper West Side, but West Side cinephiles now have a new moviegoing option: The new eight-screen Landmark Theatres that’s opened in the fanciful Bjarke Ingels-building on West 57th Street, by the West Side Highway. We took a look at the space earlier this week and found it to be, as promised, in a similar stratosphere as other amenity-rich theaters, like Alamo Drafthouse and iPic. While there’s no in-theater food and drink ordering, there’s a curated array of concessions (Melt Ice Cream Sandwiches, Sweet & Sara Vegan Smores, Bronx Pretzel, etc.) plus a bar with craft beers, wine and cocktails and fare like salads, tacos and sliders. As for the seats, yes, you can reserve them and you’ll be sitting in either “oversized ultra-plush leather chairs or electric recliner seats with footrests,” according to a press release. Films currently being screened are mother! and the Manolo Blahnik documentary, Manolo: The Boy Who Made Shoes for Lizards.
