EB-5 Usage Numbers Indicate Delayed Waiting List for Indian Investors

March 29, 2019 / Nadia

The most recent visa numbers indicate a Vietnam EB-5 advance and a delayed Indian EB-5 waiting list. As I.A Donoso & Associates reports, “the EB-5 waiting list for India could appear later than expected, as Vietnam’s EB-5 waiting list moves forward, according to latests statistics from the U.S. Department of State (DOS)”. On March 18th, DOS Chief Visa Officer, Charles Oppenheim spoke to the American Lawyers Association (AIULA) and indicted that EB-5 visa usage numbers fell below earlier predictions.

Last fall Oppenheim had estimated that a waiting list for Indian EB-5 investors would appear by mid-2019. Most recently, based on the lower-than-expected demand, Oppenheim has estimated that Indian EB-5 applications could continue free from waiting lists until after July 2019. At the same time, reduced usage numbers also mean the waiting list for Vietnam EB-5 may move forward steadily. As stated in the original post: “Oppenheim warned that these estimates could be based on atypical data, given disruptions to visa consumption following brief EB-5 program suspensions earlier this year”.
