Lionsgate has teamed up with the Las Vegas tourist attraction AREA15 to create the John Wick Experience, which will open later this year.
According to the press release, the John Wick Experience will span approx. 12,000-square-foot in a space that blends “immersive theatre” with “highly themed cinematic environments” to create an interactive journey that allows guests to live out their best life as a copycat Keanu Reeves on a high-stakes adventure.
Fans of the billion-dollar John Wick franchise will find themselves transported into the fantastical underworld of the films from the moment they step through the doors of the Las Vegas Continental, where they will have the opportunity to kick back in a themed bar, drop coins on merchandise, and interact with the sets.
Similar to an escape room, but not labelled as such, guests will complete missions with “characters, mythology and iconography” from the Wick universe. They might find help (or hindrances) along the way, as “Continental staff, assassins and crime bosses” will also be nearby to offer up secrets and perhaps a few clues.
Franchise director Chad Stahelski and his team at 87Eleven Entertainment collaborated on the project to craft “a fully immersive experience” with Egan Productions (the same company that worked with Lionsgate on The Official SAW Escape and Escape Blair Witch along with The Hunger Games: The Exhibition).
“It’s always gratifying to see people embrace your story and characters, whether on the big screen or with a fully immersive experience like this one,” Stahelski said of the ticketed event. “The teams at Lionsgate, AREA15 and Egan really dive into this world, and I’m excited that fans will experience it live in Vegas.”
“One of the things I love about the John Wick franchise is the idea that there’s a whole world of alliances and vengeance hiding in plain sight – all converging within the worldwide locations of the Continental,” added Jenefer Brown, Executive Vice President & Head of Global Products and Experiences at Lionsgate. “This experience draws fans into that world like never before, and AREA15 is an ideal place for fans to live out the fantasy, action and danger portrayed in the films.”
The announcement of this experience comes after Stahelski signed a deal with Lionsgate to assume creative oversight of the entire John Wick franchise across all multimedia platforms. The cinematic universe is already locked and loaded to expand with the Ana de Armas movie Ballerina, coming out on June 7.
